| The nerve of some people |

| [ | mood |
| | aggravated | ] | Some people will go "Oh this again."
But I'm worked up about the attitude some people have towards artists, so here it comes. I'm sure a lot of people are aware of what happened around Playmouse; they had, without attempts to notify their users, throttled availability of art for free users reducing formerly free art which was submitted under the old TOS and conditions to teasers and/or advertising to encourage people to buy a paid account.
The very moment artists came to the forum, which they ordinarily never visited, to ask what was happening without any mention of lawsuits or anything the other non-artist users piled on the artists and called them "moochers".
Buhwhat?
The people who draw and upload free art for these people to look at/jerk off to are the moochers? The people who provide the actual content of the site, moochers?? But I know what they meant, we're assholes for defending our rights, how dare we not roll over when people commercially exploit our art without consent? How dare we balk at the fact we weren't at least notified about what was going to happen, that there were no detailed bug reports and get aggravated when the site prompts us to become paid users so we can view our own art??
But hey, they can go and bitch at and piss off any artist right? For every jaded artist who flees from the requests for free art, lectures from people telling you to draw animal cocks and demands you change commissions to suit the tastes of the casual viewer rather than the paying customer there'll be 10 more who they can badger for the coming years until those people wise up as well.
Moochers. Seriously. I'm still baffled. |

| I think this was supposed to upset me... |
[Dec. 30th, 2006|01:15 pm] |
Okay, first post here, because it's the first time I've had anything to snark about. But for a reference to what I'm talking about:
http://elfwood.lysator.liu.se/fanq/s/l/slupine2/slupine2.html
Pay attention to the anonymous idiot who makes fun of the fact that I put a "don't steal my stuff" notice at the top (which like, just about everybody did when I put that up as an extra measure so kids couldn't go "but you didn't saaaaay not to use ittttt!").
But seriously, wtf? Who just goes to a random site and is like "yeeeeeah, your art sucks to bad for you to care about it being stolen, kthxbye."
Hell, man, I don't think I've even updated my Elfwood crap in like 2 or 3 years, except to REMOVE stuff that I was moving to DA. I'm just dumbfounded by how pathetic a life this person must have.... unless it's somebody I used to know, which actually makes them even more pathetic (and I can only think of like two people who would be that petty).
Most of that stuff was posted in high school, in fact....
Okay I need to quit while I'm ahead and stop looking at my old replies to comments back when I was a total nerd. o.o;; |

Hey, I've come to bring an amusing story that bloody well pissed me off at the time.
Now, over on deviantart, I was on the forums and some person was bitching about how anime art is only big boos, dicks and fetishes. I told her she was wrong. we had a long discussion on how not all anime is porn, how I clearly do anime because it's easy and I must have secret fetishes. Next thing I know she's gone to the only romantic piece in my gallery...and crapped it out with the following.
I like how they're bitching about how unoriginal I am, how I can only do anime yadda yadda yadda. They ignore all my gallery for the one anime piece that shows a gay couple...and ignore my links to other sites where other art goes. DA is my anime gallery :| is it hard to understand that I can draw other things? Completely ignore all else. |

Practically. every, person, seems. to. need. to. point. out.
OMFG READ THE COMMENTS ALREADY POSTED!!!
I'm just... slightly annoyed by this is all.
I'm happy I got a DD, but Jesus Christ people.... |

| Here's a live one |
[Oct. 31st, 2006|04:30 pm] |
Haven't had anything "fun" to report from SecondLife for a while.
But then I got this PM. Name removed because they really didn't do anything wrong (other than pointless nitpickery).
[6:48] Name Removed: just lookin at your lil stand full of different avi's and noticed that u hade some jaguar avi's witch i would love to have purchased but the fur is not jaguar print. i know it may be hard to make it perfect but this is barely close. [6:49] Name Removed: just thought i'd let ya know
My reply:
I'd have to disagree with you sir, we use many photo references in our avatar designs to get them as close to realistic as possible. In the future, if you'd like to assist an artist with their work, it would help for you to give them more information, such as Why you believe it doesn't look like a jaguar print. The only conclusion I can make is that you cannot see the back of the avatar, where the rosettes are much more prominment (besides the front which is obviously unique to jaguars with the nature of the large spots and the pattern around the neck). I've sent a screenshot of the backside of the tawny jaguar just to show you how it looks.
--
Now the thing that irks me is not that he gave a nastygram on the avatar, (Pretty much insulting my work). The thing that annoys me is that this is a useless critique. We artists get this all the time, and usually it's from some ignorant 'tard or nitpicking bastard. A lot of times when we get some note like this, the artist did not live up to their expectations (And why should we?).
No, what bothers me is that he just declares that the avatar is not realistic as a jaguar "not even close". I use photoreferences for all my avatars. I'm not saying they're dead on perfect, infact I am hardly a perfectionist. However this avatar very close to a generic jaguar as I could get photoreferences for. What I *need* from him to make this not a stupid, useless comment is to tell me exactly /why/ he thinks it's "not even close". Are the spots the wrong pattern? Is the coat the wrong color? Does it not match the countless furry artists who have no idea what a jaguar coat looks like? Can you not tell the difference between a jaguar and a leopard?
Really guys, I don't mind people critiquing my work, but you can't just throw me your opinions. They're meaningless! You need to tell me specifics, otherwise your comments are useless, degrading, and insulting.
Should I just assume you're the expert on jaguars or should I assume you're some nitpicking bastard that likes to make wild accusations about an artist's work? Well considering you didn't tell me how I fucked up, I get to assume you're the latter.

| SL rant "Your ave sucks, you should get this one" |
[Oct. 26th, 2006|12:34 am] |
| [ | mood |
| | like biting someone | ] | This seems to happen at random moments in usually sandboxes where i will get some asshole who will walk up to me ask, where i got my ave, i tell them I made it, and they go out insulting it and saying how its not "cute enough" or needs to be more like theirs, or needs to resemble anime and they would buy it.
If someone don't like it, they don't have to buy it, but no, they have to go out of their way and tell my why they don't like it and how they love this one and that and blah blah blah blah.
Ok, 2 can play at this game, I don't like excessively cute anime furry aves with eyes that take up most of their face.....I don't disrespect the creators, but I also don't go out of my way to tell them that cute anime aves are not my thing. SL needs variety ya know.
I guess its in their deluded opinion that they have to tell me what they don't like (not even critiquing, they usually say something along the lines of, it would take me a year to explain, or its not cute.), which really does nothing other then get on my nerves and tell me they don't know whats wrong with it but simply wanted to be an asshole.
Granted I do not mind someone pointing out how I could improve something or what needs work, thats fine, its helped a lot, but I occasionally will get some douche that does have any tact what so ever and seems to think acting like an idiotic snob is perfectly normal.
I know I should just smile and ignore, but I can't when some of these people push it a little too far. |

| Why should you catagorize my work? |
[Oct. 20th, 2006|11:32 am] |
| [ | mood |
| | annoyed | ] | I don't know why exactly, but this really irked me today.
I posted some work. Of course, like most galleries, this particular one forces you to pick categories for it based on subject matter. It was 2 in the morning, and this particular gallery has a really poor subject category choices. They don't have an ideal category for this, so I picked something I thought was closest at the time. So today I check on it, and there is a comment critizing my choice of category for the artwork.
WTF?
I haven't posted new artwork on this site in months. People have been clamoring for new work for months. I finally post something and I get critizized on the CATEGORY I picked? What the fuck? I felt it was a pretty rude way of putting it too, as if asking me to justify my decision putting it in that category. If the artists decides thats what they feel it is, then why question it? I think my definition and their definition of this particular category vary, but still, intollerant much? Its not like loads of other work is miscategorized in these stupid category systems. Why the hell am _I_ getting flack for it?
Now that I'm actually thinking coherantly ( as opposed to 2am after 2 10hour work days...) There was probably a couple of other categories I could have listed it in, but this particular category system has either one extreme or the other and nothing in between. Its also ridiculously specific in some cases and supremely vague in others. How the fuck do you truly categorize artwork accurately in a system like that?? And we won't even go into the search functionality.
Honestly, this type of bullshit makes me wonder why I bother to post at all.
Oh yeah, I wanted feedback. Duh. Be careful what you wish for kiddies. :P |

| | aggravated | ] | This really ticked me off...
A little over a month ago, I posted to the redline this community seeking help on my sketch of Rakota, my were-tiger character. Well I didn't find much help, and that's not what bugged me.
Yesterday, I get a comment on it so it's in my e-mail. I figure it's going to be someone giving a helping hand. Nope. Instead it's some bitchy female who offers no help whatsoever. Her exact statement was: "Do furries have nothing more to create than tacky improperly proportioned "artworks?"" Well, her calling me a furry threw me over the edge, but I knew my Sketch was improperly proportioned [which is why I was posting to the redline community in the first place], and probably was a tacky pose, but I don't give a damn; but obvious, miss "Know-it-all" can't possibly keep her trap shut long enough to just pass by my post.
So I replied to her comment with: "I'm not a furry by the way.. and that's not a furry drawing.. It's a were-tiger. How bout you ask the appropriate questions before making assumptions as to what I am and what I'm drawing? Also, if you don't have any help as far as redlining, why don't you just shut your trap and go bother someone else." I wasn't really effected by her actual comment of the artwork, only that she called me a "furry" just because, heaven forbid, I drew a were-tiger. I'm tired of ignorant people writing-off my work as "furry" without even so much as a glance to see if I or my artwork is to be called "furry".
No offense but being called a furry just makes me shudder.. I have no clue why other than that MOST the furries I know are... well... not my cup of coffee... I guess I just have issues with the general community rather than individuals.. If you're a furry, or not a furry, power to ya, but just don't be namin' me one. Also, I have nothing really against the community [other than the extremely out-of-proportioned pervert art; and no.. not "furvert" but PERVERT], and I've got some friends who are furries. |

| Ranty McRantypants - entitlement issues |
[Oct. 17th, 2006|08:14 am] |
Y'know what annoys me?
One of the things that annoys me the most about being an illustrator and sharing my art is certain dumbass comments from people with entitlement issues. I'm sure everyone here is familiar with the type, you upload a drawing you did for someone else, either paid or because you're nice, and someone goes "LOL! Needs bigger boobs!" (Only usually in a less literate way)
Yeah, I'm talking about the type of person who sees nothing wrong about telling (not even asking) you to change a drawing -and- someone else's character so it'll meet -their- (fapping) standards. Fuck the person for whom the drawing was intended, fuck the customers who are supporting you, the artist, by sending you money so you can pay bills/buy food/etc. You need to change your commission/gift so they can get their wank on!
Why else would you be drawing if not for their fapping pleasure? |
